Shelling in The Summer Months

Shelling report

Here we are headed into the summer months. Shelling has no season because everything still washes up every month.

What does change is my customers.

Winter months have snowbirds looking for Junonia and cone shells, while in June it all changes; it’s families.

Families with children that are on their summer break from the northern states come down to Naples and Marco Island.

I have to say that these families, in general, are looking more for dolphins boat tours and empty beach experiences.

They enjoy shelling, only not so serious.

This is a benefit for the real, hardcore beach searchers because many rare and great shells are left untouched by novice shellers. This is why shelling in the summer months can suit all types of seashell finders.

Naples and Marco Island have a shell bar known as Second Chance or Shell Island. Currently, it’s closed for pelicans and shorebirds to lay their eggs. It’s probably the number one place to go. Shells can span for eight feet under the surface of the beach with barely any sand.

There is a sign that is posted, and if someone gets close to the island, they will be fined.

The 10,000 islands have tens of miles that haven’t been walked on. The upcoming summer months are the best time to explore and take full advantage of what lies untouched. Some shells may have been unseen for years; even many prized Junonia shells.

We publish our tours on our Facebook page after every shelling and dolphin tour. Our guests are excited about their finds, and they are thrilled to be featured on our page.

We utilize our page as proof that amazing shells can be found all year round. Many people assume that all of the good shells have been collected by people from the Christmas and Easter times.

We can design a trip that includes dolphins and manatees. We can get your family to a totally secured beach for fun – like it’s your own private island. Everyone says it’s the highlight of their vacation. If you have a pet, please bring them. Dogs are our favorite kind of outing.

A fast report.  Two Junonia shells and maybe 30 cones this week. For some reason the cones were small. The red tide produced tons of dead catfish, which inevitably turn into something known as the crucifix shell. If you can endure the red tide, it’s the best time for frigid shells. Usually the only time we find them.
